Why MaenExists starts this way
The design rules behind a site built to disappear behind the writing.
MaenExists is for ideas that would otherwise stay scattered across scratch files, terminals, and unfinished docs.
The rules are simple:
- write clearly
- publish often
- keep the interface quiet
- make the publishing path frictionless
I wanted the site to feel closer to an editor than a portfolio. That means no shadows, no gradients, no decorative depth, and no busy landing page tricks. The structure has to carry the tone on its own.
The rest follows from that:
- one column
- one accent color
- strong spacing
- clear metadata
Future posts will cover build logs, tiny systems, visual decisions, and the implementation details that still matter six months later.
